Microsoft is planning to offer free mobile device management (MDM) to its Office 365 users starting in the first quarter of 2015. According to an article from ZDNet, the mobile device management will be embedded directly into Office 365 — something that follows the company’s promise to manage more than just devices, but also apps and data running Windows, iOS, and Android.
The addition of MDM capabilities, which includes the same features provided through Microsoft’s Intune service, will allow administrators to wipe corporate data from devices when necessary, while leaving personal data intact, the article stated. Updates to the Intune service will also provide users with the ability to manage Office mobile apps, wrap management technology around business applications, and enable more secure app viewing and control.
The company is offering other updates as well, the article noted, that will provide extended data-loss prevention technology across Office 365 and new software development kits for those who wish to create their own apps. In addition, Microsoft has recently made available application launchers that increase the ease in which users can find and access their Office apps.
